RODENT INFESTATION IN MAITUM, SARANGANI, PHILIPPINES

Problem Description: According to Municipal Agriculturist Eddie A. Ampodia, Barangay Kalaong alone is planted to 1,600 ha. of Round-up Ready Corn. Corn damaged are in soft dough stage where more than 50% of the standing crops have cobs devoid of kernels which were eaten by rats. The rice crops in the area which are in their tillering to graining stage were also damaged. Immediate Action/s: 1. DA-RFU 12 has provided 10 kg of Zinc Phosphate in addition to what the province has already given. an image

Preventive Action/s: 1. The municipal mayor has instructed the MA to draft the Municipal Rat Control Program and its corresponding Budgetary Requirements. 2. Problem Description: Sooty molds were seen even above the ear of the corn and even on the tassel of the plant in Aurora and Pangasinan, respectively. Sooty molds were also observed early whorl stage of the corn plant.Above observations indicate high population of the invasive pests aggravated by high humidity.
